An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 struck Monday morning the east coast of Japan, off the central island of Honshu, said the United States Geological Survey (USGS, for its acronym in English), but by the time available of stock of any casualties or damage.

The quake struck at a depth of 31 km at 04H32 (20H32 GMT Sunday), about 140 km east of the city of Sendai.

Japan is a highly seismic. The last earthquake of magnitude 9.0, shook the northeastern coast and unleashed a tsunami that left some 19,000 dead or missing, and a serious nuclear accident in central Fukushima.
